Career Day
Career Day will be held on Friday, May 9th, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This is a fun-filled day where our students get the opportunity to learn about many different careers and activities.

If you have a career or interesting hobby you would like to share with our students, please contact Mrs. Richardson at 948-3303.

Brain Bowl

Brain Bowl
The District #70 Brain Bowl will be held on Thursday, May 1st, at Beulah Elementary School. The competition will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The following students will represent North Mesa at the 2008 District #70 Brain Bowl.

Spelling Bee

Spelling Bee
The District #70 Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd, at Prairie Winds Elementary School in Pueblo West. The Spelling Bee will begin with the 3rd grade competition at 9:30 a.m.

Congratulations to the following students who competed in the North Mesa Spelling Bee on April 4th and will represent North Mesa in the District #70 competition on April 23rd.

Canned Food Drive

CANNED FOOD DRIVE
October 31st – November 9th

This year, North Mesa Elementary will be participating in the Tom & Louie’s Cupboard (TLC) Food Drive. Area high school groups are organizing this food drive which began 12 years ago in memory of Fr. Tom Sheets and Fr. Louis Stovik. Thanksgiving baskets will be prepared from the food collected and delivered directly to our families in need.

• The canned food drive will begin on Wednesday, October 31st. The class that brings the most canned food items in on Wednesday will lead the Halloween parade.

• Each classroom will be given a tally sheet each day to record the total number of canned food items brought in. Student Council will pick up the tally sheets and bring the canned food to Room 106 where it will be boxed up.

• The classroom that brings the most food items in by November 9th will receive a special prize. Each student in the classroom that brings the most items in will receive a coupon for a free item at the school store.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week: October 22nd—26th

This year marks the 19th annual celebration of National Red Ribbon Week. Red ribbons are worn in honor of Enrique “Kiki” Camerana, a DEA undercover agent who lost his life fighting the war on drugs. The red ribbon carries a strong, simple message of life, health and hope. People who want to make a difference wear it. At North Mesa, students and staff will wear red bracelets in support of a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. The Colorado National Guard will do a helicopter fly-in at North Mesa and speak to our students on Thursday, October 18th.

This year our theme for Red Ribbon Week will be “We’ve got better things to do than drugs.” Students will focus on their talents, hobbies and interests that enhance their lives. Students will write essays or complete artwork to illustrate this theme.

The following are the activities planned for Red Ribbon Week:

Fri., Oct. 26th “Living Drug Free-No Sweat”
Wear sweatshirts and/or sweatpants
